Understanding the Science of CO2 Enrichment

Carbon dioxide (CO2) plays a pivotal role in photosynthesis, the biochemical process that enables plants to convert light energy into stored chemical energy, such as sugars and organic compounds. During photosynthesis, plants absorb CO2 from the air and use it to create glucose and oxygen. Elevating CO2 levels accelerates photosynthesis, resulting in increased growth and yield.

In indoor cultivation, maintaining the ideal CO2 concentration is crucial for maximising plant growth. Typically, outdoor air contains about 400 parts per million (ppm) of CO2, but fruiting plants, in particular, benefit from higher levels, ideally between 1,000 and 1,200 ppm. By enhancing CO2 concentrations in the cultivation area, growers can optimise photosynthesis and, consequently, boost plant development.
